HONG KONG/FRANKFURT (Reuters) – Chinese firms Joyoung 002242.SZ and Gree Electric 000651.SZ are among those eyeing the domestic appliances business of Dutch conglomerate Philips’ PHG.AS in a deal worth up to 3 billion euros (2.77 billion pounds), people with knowledge of the matter said.

Philips’ advisers have sent out teasers to potential buyers, said two of the people, adding the bidding process will start later this year.

Chinese white goods producers Haier 1169.HK600690.SS and Midea 000333.SZ have also shown interest in the business, the people told Reuters, adding some of them are working with investment banks on a potential bid.

Photo gallery: Downtown condo mixes modern, traditional

Bryan Bisson bought his two-bedroom, 3-1/2-bath condo in the former Ashanti Ballroom at 16th and Alabama streets two years ago and immediately set about brightening up its tall walls and thick moldings to give it a fresher look.

But the four-story space, part of a building constructed in 1901, didn’t need a complete overhaul. He liked the mix of modern and formal—along with strong wood tones and big windows—that came with a 2006 renovation.

“I just polished it up and made it a little bit more modern instead of completely gutting it,” said Bisson, a hairstylist. “And I think it worked out really, really well.”

Save seeds now for next spring’s garden

michael jhon

I have to hide them, the rapidly filling bowls. Stash them downstairs. My wife thinks multiple dishes of drying seed are impossibly untidy, though to be fair she isn’t that sure about bookshelves.

But it is the best gardening thing, honestly, to grow from seed you’ve saved yourself: more intimate, more magical, with more of a relationship.

We were lucky. At the start of our allotment journey, we met some seed obsessives, travelling and swapping varieties from off the beaten track. We learned early on the magic of growing more unusual seed.

Currently covering our downstairs shelves: assorted dishes of tear peas in pods, coriander, tagetes, nasturtiums, calendula and sunflowers. So far so predictable. Also honesty from a bloom I’d noticed on the walk to the plot and last week saw had seeded. Assorted beans will be next (including ‘Bacau’), orache and amaranth – though they liberally self-seed everywhere –

Bring in the experts: It’s time to secure your home network – Entertainment & Life – telegram.com

michael jhon

Not all that long ago, managing your home network’s security didn’t involve much more than installing an antivirus program on your PC. If only it were still so simple.

It’s no longer just about protecting the computer on which you may be working from home and the laptops the kids may be using as online school starts. Odds are good you’ve got a few other internet-connected devices around the house — phones, tablets, game consoles, maybe a “smart” TV or thermostat or refrigerator or light bulb or kid’s toy or security camera or video-streaming gadget or voice-activated digital valet.

The average U.S. home now has 11 such devices, according to Deloitte, many of which are vulnerable to hacking. If you don’t want cyber cat burglars traipsing across them, potentially spreading malware or ransomware as they go, you’ll want to secure your entire home network.

What are the risks?
