Like an Offering to Vulcan, This Home Honors the Ancient Volcano That Shaped Its Design

michael jhon

We often see homes inspired by nature. It could be anything from the ocean to the mountains that influences an architect’s design decisions. We’ve seen desert hues and winter whites, boulders that cut right into a wall or even a tree growing through the middle of a house. But this home precariously positioned on a steep slope may be the first we’ve seen that drew its influence from the stages of a volcanic eruption. Take a peek at Lookout House — a home that goes from glowing orange magma to cooled-down basalt.

The result of a collaboration between architectural firm Faulkner Architects and Concept Lighting Lab, Lookout House was fully informed by the land. Everything from the slope of the ground to the fact that it sits at the base of a dormant volcano had influence on the design process.  Located in Truckee, California, this house is like an

While kicking back in a beach house might sound dreamy right about now, I have to ask: Why is beach house decor so bad?

As someone who’s rented beach houses on sandy shores from New York’s Fire Island to the Maine coast, I can conclude that beach house owners tend to go overboard with beach-themed decor. We’re talking seashells not only at the seashore, but everywhere in the home, fashioned into soap dishes, wind chimes, “seashell bouquets”—you

Beige is a comforting, inviting colour to use in your home – whether it’s on the wall or in furnishings and accessories – and it’s super easy to add accent colours to, both neutral, natural ones and bright bolds.

Now, beige is having a moment. Dulux announced this week that this year’s Colour of the Year 2021 is Brave Ground – colour they say is grounding and one that will provide a firm foundation for change and creativity in our homes. And yes, of course, its choice is inspired by the pandemic and our need for comfort at home.

We love it… and so we’ve put together a gallery of room ideas so that you can see how easy it is to use

“They’re not with their parents, and it’s sad. But the patrols told me the kids say, ‘Wow, I get a bed? I will have a cabinet for my clothes?’” Melania Trump said, according to Winston Wolkoff’s her new book, “Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship with the First Lady.”

“It’s more than they have in their own country where they sleep on the floor,” Melania said. “They are taking care nicely

Couples design their own “virtual babies” at Dutch art exhibit

michael jhon

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) – Couples who want children of their own got a brief taste of parenthood by creating their own “digital babies” during a virtual reality art exhibit in the Netherlands.

Visitors selected the baby’s character traits, physical appearance and other features by answering questions on a computer tablet.

They sat in sofas in a futuristic room with soft lighting and flowing drapes, which was all part of an installation called “IVFX: posthuman parenting in hybrid reality,” created by Dutch visual artist Victorine van Alphen.

“I had lots of deep, personal conversations that inspired me,” Van Alphen said, including with people who wanted to have children but couldn’t, someone who had lost a child and neighbours considering artificial insemination.

“There were lots of beautiful, inspiring conversations, anecdotes and background discussions that formed this strange, futuristic project,” she said. “I kind of gave myself the ‘mission impossible’ to create a presence

Smack in the middle of Mercedes’s engine lineup for the updated 2021 GLE-class is the brand’s turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. Set against the standard 255-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four and AMG’s twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 with more than 600 ponies, the six’s smoothness and easy power make it a standout in the GLE53 coupe model.

The turbocharged six features a 48-volt motor-generator that delivers the 3.0-liter a silky smooth auto stop-start system and also fills in the gaps between nine-speed automatic transmission’s gear changes. The 48-volt system also powers an electric supercharger that helps feed boost before the turbocharger wakes up. The hybrid/supercharger combo yields a low-rpm surge that helps get the 5322-pound GLE off the line with satisfying authority.
